A Little Bit of Paris in Edgartown
Rickard's Bakery

Sashay over to Rickard’s Bakery, opposite the Edgartown Thrift Shop, and voila. It’s totally Paris. With fabulously seductive scents, sights, sounds, even designer aprons, this is your new mecca for European style butter croissants, with a “creamier mouthfeel” and “chocolate chip cookies with minichips, ensuring the perfect ratio of cookie dough and chocolate in every bite,” say the Rickards.

Both have lived and worked in Lucerne, Brussels and London, as well as creating their own successful Tisbury wholesale and retail bakery, proprietors Gates and Kate Rickard have created an elegant, comfortable melange of New England and French countryside patisserie in Edgartown. They make everything from scratch, using their own recipes, nothing par-baked, pre-made from another facility. Word spread quickly about their Italian copper and brass espresso machine, with a 9-liter boiler, creating truly fabled cappuccino froth. Add to that coffees from Coava Roasters, Johnson Brothers and MV Island Coffee, plus their fine European pastries, and artisan breads, which take three days to make, and that's just a taste.

Lunch items include Serrano ham and comte sandwich on fresh baguette with their fabled butter; on premise-roasted beef or (most popular) honey-roasted turkey sandwiches; homemade hummus for vegetarian sandwiches – all with fresh-baked bread. They serve soup, salad, quiche, and breakfast items: smoked salmon croissants, bacon, egg and cheese, pies, house made granola parfaits. Get thee to Rickard's.
