GARDENERS NOTEBOOK

Long Lasting Seasonal Joy

By Jani Gardner

Evidently the Garden Club’s Mary Lou Perry is just as busy a bee with her flower arrangements during the winter/spring season as in her spectacular summer/fall seasons. She seems to be unable to remain inside, weather or not.Witness this fabulous gathering of lovely seasonal drama above!

Just outside her entry door sits this robust, romantic antique iron urn, filled with nature’s favorites. Surrounded by bird’s nest spruce, there’s an alphabet of favorite seasonal flora: bird’s nest spruce, lichen covered scrub oak, touches of rhododendron; native blue, white and pitch pine; Old Man’s Beard lichen from her woods, butterfly weed pods from seed, sweet fern, yarrow. Add to that asters, grasses, native little blue stem with wildflowers mixed in, Joe Pye weed grasses..i.e. an overwhelming gathering from trails and woods of their three acre West Tisbury fantasy.
